A seemingly common problem plaguing older Xbox's is that the power button may cease to function, while the eject button can still be used to power on the console. To power off the system, your only option may be to unplug the power cord or use software (such as EvoX) to power down. Other related problems may include the Xbox randomly shutting down during gameplay, and in some cases a powered-down Xbox may turn itself on. Plugging in the power cable may cause the Xbox to power on immediately.

Various explanations have been given for why this occurs, ranging from a dirty power switch to a leaky capacitor.
