Atari 5200
Manufacturer Atari
Generation Second generation
Release date 1982
Predecessor Atari 2600
Successor Atari 7800

The Atari 5200 was a second generation pre-crash video game console by Atari, and part of the Atari 8-bit family.

Released in November 1982, it was initially meant to be a sucessor to the massively popular Atari 2600, but failed due to many hardware problems, namely problems with the system's user-unfriendly, albeit innovative controller. The public never really adopted the system, nor paid it much mind at all, as the 2600 continued to dominate the market. The video game crash came a year after its launch.
